a featured exhibit of CONTACT 05,
toronto's annual photography festival.

Wedge continued its exploration of black culture with this historical exhibition. In a career spanning over half a century, Jürgen Schadeberg has come to represent much more than visual storyteller. He arrived in South Africa from Germany in 1950, and his unique position as an outsider allowed him access to both the black and white communities of that era. Indeed, their cultural and political chasm is clearly indicated through the social commentary of his images.

Light Source presented: the "Truth Be Told" project

Light Source is a not-for-profit organization providing community access to the photo-based arts. Throughout the month of May, they sponsored a workshop for Grade 8 students from Nelson Mandela Park Public School in Regent Park. Activities included a visit to the Jürgen Schadeberg exhibition, to help inspire their own photographic creations. A selection of their images - to be based on the theme of "Truth" - were exhibited alongside the Schadeberg work, at Shift Gallery from May 26-29, 2005.
